Shell Pinafore Dress 0-3 Months

Size 0-3 Months 16” chest

Materials 

320 meters of DK weight 3 yarn

4 and 4.5 mm hooks I use this set from Amazon*

2 x 10-15mm buttons

Written in US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc=single crochet (double crochet UK)

hdc=half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc=double crochet (treble crochet UK)

fpdc=front post double crochet (front post treble crochet UK)

inc=increase (crochet 2 into the next stitch)

ch=chain

dec=decrease

slst=slip stitch

shell=2dc, ch1, 2dc in one stitch (2 treble, ch1, 2 treble UK)

Gauge Square

With 4mm hook

Row 1: Ch11, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each chain across. (9) Turn

Row 2-5: ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc 8. (9) Turn

Square should measure 2 x 2 inches

If you're out with a 4mm hook try a 4.5mm hook.

If you have problems hitting the length but the width is ok, try dc (treble crochet) instead of hdc.

Front and back panels are worked the same so you will need to make two panels. We start off making two legs then joining to make the body.

*Always ch1 and hdc in same to start row, unless stated*

Using a 4mm hook ch22 

Make 2 (front and back panel)

Row 1: hdc in 3rd chain from hook, hdc 19. (20) Turn

Row 2: ch1, 2 hdc in base of ch1, hdc 20, 2 hdc in last. (22) Turn

Row 3: ch1, 2 hdc in base of ch1, hdc 22, 2 hdc in last. (24) Turn

Row 4: ch1, 2 hdc in base of ch1, hdc 24, 2 hdc in last. (26) Turn

Row 5: ch1, 2 hdc in base of ch1, hdc 26, 2 hdc in last. (28) Turn

Row 6: ch1, 2 hdc in base of ch1, hdc 28, 2 hdc in last. (30) Turn

Row 7: ch1, 2 hdc in base of ch1, hdc 30, 2 hdc in last. (32) Turn

Row 8: ch1, 2 hdc in base of ch1, hdc 32, 2 hdc in last. (34) Turn

Repeat for the second panel, do not fasten off and continue as follows.

Now joining both together change to a 4.5mm hook.

Row 9: ch1, sc in the same, sc 5, inc, (sc 5, inc) x 4, sc 3, then continuing across the second panel, sc 2, (sc 5, inc) x 5, sc 2, slst to first. (78)

Change to 4.5mm hook

Row 10: ch1, dc in base of ch1, (sk1, shell in next, sk1, dc1) repeat to end, slst to top of first dc. (20 shells and 20dc)

Row 11: ch1, fpdc in base dc, (shell in each ch1 space, fpdc) repeat to end and slst to the top of first fpdc. (20 shells and 20dc)

Repeat Row 11 until  work measures approximately 11.5 Inches from top. 

Straps 

Join yarn at top right of dress using a 4mm hook.

Row 1-12: Ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc in next 2. (3) Turn

Fasten off. 

Second strap, join yarn in the last 3 stitches and repeat row 1-12 from the first strap.

Fasten off. 

Using same or contrasting yarn sc all around the front, straps and back to finish off with a neat edge.

Sew in all ends sew buttons that fit through the hdc to the top of the dress.
