Farmyard Mods

Here are some Mods to make different designs for the pick and mix sweater, romper and cardigan so that you can get lots of different looks with one pattern. Many more themes will be available soon! The full ad free PDF can be purchased here and also includes two new squares Alpaca and Guinea pig, along with the extra large 8.5” squares needed for adult sizes.

Materials

Dk / weight 3 yarn

4mm crochet hook

Written in English US terms

sc = single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hdc = half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc = double crochet (treble crochet UK)

tr = treble crochet (double treble crochet UK)

sc2tog/sc3tog = sc two/three stitches together (double crochet two/three stitches together)

slst = slip stitch

blo = back loop only (crochet into the back loop of the stitch

[ ] = in the same stitch

* * = repeat between

ch = chain

Eyes

The eyes are made the same for each animal

If making small, medium and large use a 3mm hook and black 4 ply yarn.

If making extra large use dk black yarn and 4mm hook

Round 1: Make a magic circle, ch1, 6 sc, slst to the first and pull tight.

Fasten off with a long end for sewing, sew one white line for small, medium and large and two white lines for extra large.

Pig

Make the circle part light pink

Small 4” / medium 5” square

Snout

Starting with darker pink

Round 1: Make a magic circle, ch1, sc 3, hdc 1, sc 3, hdc 1, in the circle, slst to the first. (8)

Change to light pink

Round 2: ch1, [2 sc] in the same, [2 sc] in all. (16)

Ears

Make two starting with pink

Row 1: Make a magic circle, ch1, sc 3, hdc 1, dc 1, hdc 1, sc 3] in the circle. (9) Turn

Change to light pink

Row 2: sc 3, [2 hdc] in the next, [dc, tr, dc] in the next, [2 hdc] in the next, sc 3. (13)

Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Large 6.5” square

Snout

Starting with darker pink

Round 1: Make a magic circle, ch1, sc 3, hdc 3, sc 3, hdc 2 in the circle, slst to the first. (10)

Change to light pink

Round 2: ch1, [2 hdc] in the same, [2 hdc] in all. (16)

Ears

Make two starting with dark pink

Row 1: Make a magic circle, ch1, sc 3, hdc 1, dc 1, tr 1, dc 1, hdc 1, sc 3, in the circle. (11) Turn

Change to light pink

Row 2: sc 3, [2 hdc] in the next, [2 dc] in the next, [2 tr] in the next, [2 dc] in the next, [2 hdc] in the next, sc 3. (16)

Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Lamb

Make the circle part of the square in cream

Fluffy head

Row 1: ch13, sc in the second chain from hook, sc 11. (12)

Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

ch6, hdc in the third chain from hook, hdc 2, sc in the last. (4)

Fasten off.

Sew a nose.

Llama

Make the circle part of the square in dark cream, then

In the front loops, ch1, *[sc, ch2, sc] skip 1* repeat to end.

Then use the back loops to complete the square.

Fasten off.

Using beige

Make a magic circle, ch2, 16 dc, slst to the first and pull tight. (16)

Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Fasten off.

Muzzle

Using beige

Round 1: ch5, [3 hdc] in the third chain from hook, hdc 1, [6 hdc] in the last, working along the other side, hdc 1, [3 hdc] in the last, slst to first. (14)

Round 2: ch2, [2 hdc] in the same, [2 hdc] in the next 2, hdc 1, [2 hdc] in the next 6, hdc 1, [2 hdc] in the last 3, slst to first. (26)

Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Sew a nose in black yarn.

Chick

Make the circle part yellow

Small 4” / medium 5” square

Beak

ch4, sc in the second chain from hook, hdc 1, [2 hdc] in the last.

Fasten off.

Head Feathers

Cut 4, 4 inch strands of yarn. Fold the strands of yarn in half and pull the centre part way through the first row of head, so it's about an inch through forming a loop, then pull the tail ends of yarn through the loop and tighten, snip ends to around 2 cm.

Large 6.5” square

Beak

ch5, sc in the second chain from hook, hdc 2, [2 dc] in the last.

Fasten off.

Head Feathers

Cut 6, 4 inch strands of yarn. Fold the strands of yarn in half and pull the centre part way through the first row of head, so it's about an inch through forming a loop, then pull the tail ends of yarn through the loop and tighten, snip ends to around 3 cm.

Make the circle part white

Make the circle part light grey

Ch4, 2 loop stitch in the second chain from hook, 2 loop stitch in the next two chains. Fasten off with a long end for sewing, snip the loops.

Large 6.5” square

Join beige at the other side of the chain.
