Woodland Mods

Here are some Mods to make different designs for the pick and mix sweater, romper and cardigan so that you can get lots of different looks with one sweater pattern. Many more themes will be available soon!

You can also make the circle and add the details to make an applique!

These fun granny squares are all started the same by making a circle with the animal colour, then turning into a square using a background colour. They feature 14 different woodland themed animals, a toadstool and tree. The pattern comes in four sizes of square to be compatible with the pick and mix sweater, cardigans and romper. 4”, 5”, 6.5” and the 8.5” is included in the paid ad free pattern available here.


Materials

Dk / weight 3 yarn I used Paintbox Simply DK in Slate Green for the background colour (276 metres per 100g) and various different colours for the animals.

4ply yarn in black and white for the eyes on the 4, 5 and 6.5”

3 and 4 mm crochet hooks

Notes

  • Check each animal size before completing the square as some have changes to the normal pattern.

  • All parts apart from the eyes and toadstool spots are made with dk / weight 3 yarn and 4mm hook unless stated.

Eyes 

The eyes are made the same for each animal apart from the owl.

If making small, medium and large use a 3mm hook and black 4 ply yarn.

If making extra large use dk black yarn and 4mm hook

Round 1: In a magic circle, ch1, 6 sc, slst to the first and pull tight. (6)

Fasten off with a long end for sewing, sew one white line for small, medium and large and two white lines for extra large.

BEAK

Sew a triangle in orange or yellow between the eyes. Sew some v stitches in cream for the feathers.

Make two starting with black 4ply

Round 1: Make a magic circle, ch1, 6 sc into the circle, slst to the first and pull tight. (6) 

Change to white dk

Round 2: ch1, [2 hdc] in each stitch, slst to the first. (12) Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Make two using brown

Ch7, sc in the second chain from the hook, [2 hdc] in the next, [hdc, dc] in the next. Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Using cream

Make a magic circle, ch2, 15 dc into the circle, pull tight, slst to the first. (15) Fasten off with a long end for sewing.


NOSE 

Using black 

Make a magic circle, ch1, 6 sc into the circle, slst to the first, pull tight. (6)

Fasten off sew at the top of the muzzle, sew a black line down, sew 3 white whiskers at each side using white cotton.


EARS

Make two using brown

Make a magic circle, ch1, 6 sc into the circle, pull tight. Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
