Woodland Mods
Here are some Mods to make different designs for the pick and mix sweater, romper and cardigan so that you can get lots of different looks with one sweater pattern. Many more themes will be available soon!
You can also make the circle and add the details to make an applique!

Materials
Dk / weight 3 yarn
4mm crochet hook
Written in English US terms
sc = single crochet (double crochet in UK)
hdc = half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)
dc = double crochet (treble crochet UK)
tr = treble crochet (double treble crochet UK)
sc2tog / sc3tog = sc two/three stitches together (double crochet two/three stitches together)
slst = slip stitch
blo = back loop only (crochet into the back loop of the stitch
[ ] = in the same stitch
* * = repeat between
ch = chain
Toadstool (4 & 5” square)
Make square one colour
Using red
Row 1: ch2, [12 dc] in a magic circle, pull tight. (12) Turn
Row 2: ch1, dc 4, [2 dc] in the next 4, dc 4.
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Using white 4ply make 3
6 sc in a magic circle, slst to the first.
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Stalk
Using beige
Ch8, sc in the second chain from hook, sc 4, hdc 1, [5 hdc] in the last chain, working along the other side, hdc 1, sc 5.
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Tree (4 & 5” square)
Make circle granny square all one colour
Using green
Round 1: Ch10. sc in the second ch from hook, sc 8. (9) Turn
Round 2: Ch1, sc in the same, *tc, sc* repeat to the end. (9) Turn
Round 3: Ch1, sc all. (9) Turn
Round 4: Ch1, sc in the same, *tc, sc* repeat to the end. (9) Turn
Round 5: Ch1, sc2tog, sc 5, sc2tog. (7) Turn
Round 6: Ch1, sc in the same, *tc, sc* repeat to the end. (7) Turn
Round 7: Ch1, sc2tog, sc 3, sc2tog. (5) Turn
Round 8: Ch1, sc in the same, *tc, sc* repeat to the end. (5) Turn
Round 9: Ch1, sc2tog, sc 1, sc2tog. (3) Turn
Round 10: Ch1, sc in the same, tc, sc. (3) Turn
Round 11: Ch1, sc3tog together. (1)
Fasten off with a long end and sew onto the square.
Trunk
Row 1: Ch4, sc in the second chain from hook, sc 2. (3) Turn
Row 2-3: ch1, sc in same, sc 2. (3) Turn
Fasten off and sew at the bottom of the tree.
Squirrel (4 & 5” square)
Make the circle in brown
Eyes
Make two using black 4ply yarn and two in cream dk yarn
6 sc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (6)
Fasten with a long end and sew a white line, sew the black on top of the cream
Nose
Using cream
11 hdc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (11)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
With brown
6 sc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (6)
Fasten with a long end and sew on top of the cream, sew a line underneath.
Ears
Make two using brown
Row 1: ch6, sc in the second chain from hook, sc 4. (5) Turn
Row 2: sc2tog, sc 1, sc2tog. (3) Turn
Row 3: sc2tog, sc 1. (2) Turn
Row 4: sc2tog. (1)
Row 5: ch1, loop stitch twice in the same stitch. Fasten off and snip the ends of the loop stitches, rake a needle through the strands to fluff them up.
Fox (4 & 5” square)
Make circle in orange
Eyes
Make two using black 4ply yarn
6 sc in a magic circle, slst to first, pull tight. (6)
Fasten off with a long end and sew a white line.
Nose
With white fluffy yarn
Ch13, sc in second chain from hook, sc 11. (12)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
With black
6 sc in a magic circle. (6)
Fasten off and sew the nose in the centre of the white part.
Ears
Make two starting with orange
Row 1: ch6, sc in the second chain from hook, sc 4. (5) Turn
Row 2: ch1, sc2tog, sc 1, sc2tog. (3) Turn
Row 3: ch1, sc all. (3) Turn
Change to black
Row 4: ch1, sc2tog, sc 1. (2) Turn
Row 5: ch1, sc2tog. (1)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Bear (4 & 5” square)
Make the circle brown
Eyes
Make two using black 4ply yarn
6 sc in a magic circle, slst to the first and pull tight. (6)
Fasten off with a long end and sew a white line.
Muzzle
Using beige
Round 1: 15 dc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (15)
Fasten off.
Nose
Using black 4ply
Round 1: 6 sc in a magic circle, slst to the first and pull tight. (6)
Fasten off and sew at the top of the muzzle, sew a black line down to the bottom.
Ears
Make two using brown
Round 1: ch1, 6 sc in a magic circle, pull tight. (6) Turn
Round 2: ch1, [2 hdc] in each stitch.
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Mouse (4 & 5” square)
Make the circle beige
Eyes
Make two using black 4ply yarn
6 sc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (6)
Fasten off with a long end and sew a white line.
Ears
Make two starting with pink
Round 1: 14 dc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (14)
Change to beige
Round 2: ch1, *sc, 1, [2 sc] in the next* repeat to the end. (21)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Nose
Using pink
6 sc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (6)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing. Sew whiskers in white cotton.
Badger
Make the circle white
Ears
Make two starting with grey
Round 1: 6 sc in a magic circle, pull tight. (6) Turn
Change to white
Round 2: [2 hdc] in each stitch. (12)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Eye patch
Make two using grey

Eye patches
Make two starting with dark grey
Round 1: 9 hdc in a magic circle, slst to first. (9)
Round 2: [2 sc] in the first 5, change to white fluffy, [2 sc] in the next 4, slst to first. (18)
Fasten off with a long end and sew the eyes on, then sew onto head.
Muzzle
Using white fluffy yarn
ch2 and 10 hdc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (10)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Nose
Using black 4ply yarn
6 sc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight.
Fasten off with a long end for and sew at the top of the muzzle.
Beever (4 & 5” square)
Make circle in medium brown
Eyes
Make two using black 4ply yarn
6 sc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (6)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing and sew a white line.
Nose
With dark brown
6 sc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (6)
Teeth
Ch6, dc in the fourth chain from hook, dc 2. (3 dc & ch3)
Sew in place and sew a black line in the middle.
Ears
Make two using medium brown
In a magic circle make 9 hdc, pull tight and fasten off.
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Mole (4 & 5” square)
Make the circle in dark grey
Eyes
Make two using black 4ply yarn
6 sc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (6)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing and sew a white line.
Nose
Using black 4ply
Round 1: 6 sc in magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (6)
Change to beige weight 3 yarn
Round 2: 2 sc in all, slst to first. (12)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Feet
Make two using beige
Row 1: Ch 4, sc in second chain from hook, sc 2. (3) Turn
Row 2: ch3, slst in second chain, slst in next chain, slst to first stitch of main work, ch3, slst in second chain, slst in next chain, slst to the second stitch of main work, ch3, slst in second chain, slst in next chain, slst to the last stitch of main work.
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Hedgehog (4 & 5” square)
The hedgehog is made different as follows:
Starting with black 4ply
Round 1: 5 sc in magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (5)
Change to beige
Round 2: ch1, sc all, slst to first. (5)
Round 3: ch1, [2 sc] in the first, sc 1, [2 sc] in the next 3, slst to first. (9)
Round 4: ch2, [2 hdc] in each stitch, slst to the first stitch. (18)
Round 5: ch2, *hdc 1, [2 hdc] in the next* repeat to the end, slst to the first stitch. (27)
Round 6: ch2, hdc 3, [2 hdc] in the next, hdc 2, fasten off, turn and join brown in the same space as first stitch, ch1, tr, *sc, tr, [sc, tr] in the next* repeat to where fastened off beige, slst to the last stitch. (36) Turn
Join main colour in first brown stitch
Round 7: ch3, 1 dc in the same, ch 1, [2 dc] in the next stitch, hdc 1, sc 5, hdc 1, *[2 dc] in the next, ch1, [2 dc] in the next, hdc 1, sc 5, hdc 1* repeat twice more, slst to the first stitch, then slst to the ch1 corner space to start the next round. (44)
Round 8: [ch3, 1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in the same stitch for the first corner, dc 11, *[2 dc, ch2, 2 dc], dc 11* repeat twice more, slst to the first stitch, then slst to the ch2 corner space to start the next round. (60)
(square should measure approx 4”)
Round 9: [ch3, 1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in the same stitch for the first corner, dc 15, *[2 dc, ch2, 2 dc], dc 15* repeat twice more, slst to the first stitch, then slst to the ch2 corner space to start the next round. (76)

Fasten off.

Make the circle dark beige

Fasten off with a long end for sewing and sew a white line.
Eye patches
Make two using beige
Ch4, sc in the second chain from hook, [hdc, dc, hdc] in the next, sc in the last, ch2, slst in the second chain from hook, working along the other side, sc, [hdc, dc, hdc] in the next, sc in the last, slst to first.
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Ears
Make two using beige
Ch4, sc in the second chain from hook, sc in the next, [sc, dc, sc] in the last, ch2, working along the other side, sc 2, slst to first and fasten off.
Join darker beige, sc 3, [sc, ch2, slst in the second chain from hook, sc], working along the other side, sc 3. slst to first.
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Owl (4 & 5” square)
Make circle in brown
Eyes
Using white
9 hdc in magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (9)
Fasten off and sew black centres.
Wings
Make two in brown
Ch5, sc in the second chain from hook, [2 hdc] in the next 2, sc in the last, ch2, slst in the second chain from hook, working along the other side, sc, [2 hdc] in the next 2, sc in the last, slst to first and fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Ears
Make two in brown
ch3, sc in the second chain from hook, [2 hdc] in the last.
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Beak
Sew a triangle in orange or yellow between the eyes.
Otter (4 & 5” square)
Make circle in beige
Eyes
Make two using black 4ply yarn
6 sc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (6)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing and sew a white line.
Muzzle
Using cream
15 dc in a magic circle, slst to first and pull tight. (15)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Ears
Using medium brown
6 sc in a magic circle, pull tight and fasten off.
Nose
Using black
6 sc in magic circle, slst to first. (6)
Fasten off sew at the top of the muzzle, sew a black line down, sew 3 white whiskers at each side.

Stripe
With white fluffy yarn
