Bug Squidgems
These cute little bugs are part of my Squidgems collection. They are quick and easy to work up. This collection features Bumble bee, Lady bug, Butterfly and Spider.
Yarn
DK, light weight, #3 yarn in red or pink for ladybug, yellow and black for bee, any colours for the butterfly, grey or black for the spider.
Sport weight, 4 ply, # 2 yarn or Embroidery thread for the eyes in white, blue and black.
Hook & Other Materials
US Size C (2.5mm) crochet hook I use this set from Amazon*

Head / Body for all
Using black for the ladybug, yellow for the bee, grey for the spider and purple for the butterfly.
Round1 : 6 sc in mc. (6)
Round 2: *inc* x 6. (12)
Round 3: *sc 1, inc* x 6. (18)
Round 4: *sc 2, inc* x 6. (24)
Round 5: *sc 3, inc* x 6. (30)
Round 6: *sc 4, inc* x 6. (36)
Round 7: *sc 5, inc* x 6. (42)
Rounds 8-20: sc all. (42) Place a marker at round 7 for the eyes. Change to red for Ladybug at round 11. Change to black for the bee at round 11 and do *2 rounds black, two rounds yellow* repeat to the last 4 rows and do them black.
Round 21: *sc 5, dec* x 6. (36)
Start stuffing and continue throughout.
Round 22: *sc 4, dec* x 6. (30)
Round 23: *sc 3, dec* x 6. (24)
Round 24: *sc 2, dec* x 6. (18)
Round 25: *sc 1, dec* x 6. (12)

Fasten off and sew closed.
Eyes for all
Using embroidery thread or 4ply yarn. Start with black
Round 1: 6 sc in a mc, slst to first.
Round 2: ch1, 2 sc in the same, 2 sc in each of the next 2, join blue and 2 sc in each of the next 3, slst to first. (12)
Round 3: join white at the other side at the beginning of blue, ch1, sc across the blue part and slst into the first black, fasten off leaving a long black and white strand for sewing eyes to the head.
Sew two white lines at the top left side of each eye, sew in ends leaving a long white and a long black one for sewing later.
Legs
Bee, ladybug and butterfly
Make two in body colour for butterfly (six in black for bee and ladybug)
Round 1 : 6 sc in mc. (6)
Rounds 2-3: sc all. (6)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing and stuff.
Antenna for all
Make two in black for ladybug and bee, any colour for butterfly
Round 1 : 5 sc in mc. (5)
Round 2: *inc* x 5. (10)
Round 3: sc all. (10)
Round 4: *dec* x 5. (5)
Rounds 5-7: sc all. (5)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Using white make two
Round 1 : 6 sc in mc. (6)
Round 2: *inc* x 6. (12)
Round 3: *sc 1, inc* x 6. (18)

Round 5: *sc 7, dec* x 2. (16)
Round 6: *sc 6, dec* x 2. (14)

Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Pin the eyes so the top is level with round 7 and sew in place.
Sew 3 stitches of pink for the cheeks, sew a mouth and eyebrows with black embroidery thread.
Sew the legs, antennas and wings.
Ladybug

Make six using black
Round 1 : 5 sc in mc. (5)
Round 2: *inc* x 5. (10)
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Pin the eyes so the top is level with round 7 and sew in place.
Sew 3 stitches of pink for the cheeks. Sew a mouth with white embroidery thread. Sew a black line from the center of the head to the back, sew 3 spots at each side, sew the legs at the bottom. Sew the legs and antennas.

Pin the top large wings at the top and the small wings at the bottom, sew in place. Then join the wings by sewing the bottom and top together for 5 rows. Curl the wings around the body and sew in place.
Sew the antennas and legs in pleace. Pin the eyes so the top is level with round 7 and sew in place.
Sew 3 stitches of pink for the cheeks. Sew a small nose in body colour and a mouth in black embroidery thread.

Make eight starting with foot colour
Round 1 : 6 sc in mc. (6)
Round 2: *inc* x 6. (12)
Round 3: sc all. (12)
Round 4: *dec* x 6. (6)
Change to body colour
Rounds 5-12: sc all. (6)
Fasten off.
Sew eyes so the top is level with round 7 and sew in place.
Sew 3 stitches of pink for the cheeks. Sew a small nose in body colour and a mouth and eyebrows in black embroidery thread.
