These colourful butterflies are perfect for using up scrap yarns and will brighten up walls, gardens, windows or wherever you choose to use them.
Written in US terms with abbreviations for UK terms
sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

Butterflies will measure approx 9 x 10 inch.
If you are not changing colours between rounds, slst to Ch Space, when changing colours start in the first chain space
* Working in first stitch ch1 does not count as a stitch so always ch1 and do the first stitch*
Top wings
Make two
Rnd1 mc, ch4, *dc, ch1* eleven times, slst to first and pull tight. (12)
Rnd2 ch1, sc in same, ch2, *sc, ch2* in each ch1 space, slst to first. (12)
Rnd3 ch1, *cluster, ch3* in each ch2 space, slst to first. (12 clusters)
Rnd4 ch1, *4 dc* in each ch3 space, slst to first. (48)
Rnd5 ch1, *sc 3, inc* five times, 1 hdc in each of the next two, 2 dc in the next, *1 dc, 1 tr* in the next, *1 tc, 1 dc* in the next, 2 dc in the next, 1 hdc in each of the next two, *sc 3, inc* five times, slst to first.

Assembly
On the top left wing place a marker 16 stitches to the left of where fastened off.
On the top right wing place a marker 16 stitches to the right of where fastened off.
On the bottom left wing place a marker 5 stitches to the left of where fastened off.
On the bottom right wing place marker 5 stitches to the right of where fastened off.
Now join the top wings together, place the top two wings together with the front facing.
With the colour yarn you want to use for the center ch5 (this will be the first antenna), sc through both wings where the marker is and sc through both for another 20 stitches.
Place the bottom wings together sc through both where marker is and sc through both for another 14 stitches, ch2 fasten off.
With the back of the butterfly facing, join yarn and slst through the back loops for 14 stitches across bottom and top wings, then do the same for the other side.
To make the other antenna, join yarn at the base of the first ch5 of the middle and ch5, fasten off. Sew in all the ends.
