Chicken Blanket Block / Hotpad
This square can be used for blankets, bags, hot pads and many more projects.
MATERIALS
I used Paintbox simply DK, weight 3 yarn (100% Acrylic 276 metres per 100 g.
You will need approx 70 meters of main colour for each square and approx 20 meters of the chicken colour.
3.5 and 4 mm crochet hooks
Scissors
Needle

NOTES
The ch1 at the beginning of each row / round does not count as a stitch.
The first ch2 on the square edging counts as a hdc.
Each square measures approx 9”.
Each square measures approx 9”. The finished blanket with edging measures approx 33” x 44”. It could be made with fewer squares, or more if wanted. It is also possible to make it in a thicker yarn, this will make the blanket bigger.
The pattern works best if you have 2 balls of the main colour to save carrying or cutting the yarn. But the main colour can be carried like this video. If you don't have two balls you can use the other end of the same ball.
Each square on the grid = 1 sc.
To start, ch36 and sc in the second chain from the hook.
Once you have completed the square, continue to the square edging below.
SQUARE EDGING
Round 1: With the right side facing, working down the left side
LEFT SIDE: [ch2, 2 hdc, ch2, 3 hdc], *skip 2 rows [3 hdc] in the next* x 11, skip 3 rows, [3 hdc, ch2, 3 hdc] in the last row,
BOTTOM: *skip 2, [3 hdc] in the next* x 11, skip 2,
RIGHT SIDE: [3 hdc, ch2, 3 hdc] *skip 2 rows, [3 hdc] in the next* x 11, skip 3 rows, [3 hdc, ch2, 3 hdc]
TOP: *skip 2, [3 hdc] in the next* x 11, skip 2, slst to first, slst across to ch2 space.
Round 2: [ch2, 2 hdc, ch2, 3 hdc] in the corner, [3 hdc] between the next 12 clusters,
[3 hdc, ch2, 3 hdc] in the corner, [3 hdc] between the next 12 clusters, [3 hdc, ch2, 3 hdc] in the corner, [3 hdc] between the next 12 clusters, [3 hdc, ch2, 3 hdc] in the corner, [3 hdc] between the next 12 clusters, slst to first.
Fasten off.
