Earflap Hat

The hat is worked using two strands of yarn to make it a nice thick warm winter hat.

Size 1-3 years

To fit size 19”-20” head

finished size 16”-17”

Length 6.5”

Materials

30-100g dk / light worsted / 8 ply / weight 3 yarn in main colour

5.5mm hook

Gauge Square

Using a 5.5mm hook and 2 strands of dk yarn

Row 1: Ch8, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc next 5. (6)

Row 2-4: ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc all. (6)

The square should measure 2 x 2 inches


Hat  

Round 1: ch4, slst to first to form a ring, ch2 and 10 hdc in ring, slst to top of first. (11)

Round 2: ch2, hdc in same, 2hdc in all, slst to first. (22)

Round 3: ch2, hdc in same, hdc 1, *inc, hdc 1* repeat to end, slst to first. (33)

Round 4: ch2, hdc in same, hdc 2, *inc, hdc 2* repeat to end, slst to first. (44)

Round 5: ch2, hdc in same, hdc 3, *inc, hdc 3* repeat to end, slst to first. (55) 

Round 6: ch1, hdc in same, hdc in to end, slst to first. (55) Turn

repeat round 6 until hat measures 6 inches.

Fasten off.

Earflaps

Skip 7 stitches to the left from where fastened off (center back) and join yarn

Row 1: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc 10. (11)

Row 2: ch1, dec, hdc 7, dec. (9)

Row 3: ch1, dec, hdc 5, dec. (7)

Row 4: ch1, dec, hdc 3, dec. (5)

Row 5: ch1, dec, hdc 1, dec. (3)

Fasten off.

Skip 18 stitches to the right from center back and repeat from row 1 for second earflap.
