Elegant Romper
This cute little romper is crochet from the top down. There will be one button at the back of the neck to fasten and three buttons for the crotch.

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK
sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)
hdc=half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)
dc=double crochet (treble crochet UK)
ch=chain
cc = criss cross (skip 1, dc 1, 1 dc in the skipped stitch) (skip 1, treble crochet, treble crochet in the skipped stitch UK)
dec=decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)
slst=slip stitch
[ ] = in the same stitch
* * = repeat between

4mm crochet hook
4 x 15mm buttons
Gauge
9 dc x 4 rows = 2” x 2”
Pattern notes
The ch1 and 2 do not count as a stitch.
The cc is done the wrong side facing.
The dc rows are the right side facing.
The sc around the crotch is done the right side facing.
I have made a YT tutorial for size Newborn here which also includes a frilly leg option, that can also be applied to the arms but I didn't have enough yarn to do that on my sample.

With work upside down and back facing, count 15 stitches to the right of where fastened off and join yarn.

Row 3: ch1, dec x 2, dc 18, dec x 2. (22) Turn
Row 4: ch1, cc x 11. (22) Turn

Row 6: ch1, cc x 9. (18) Turn
Row 7: ch1, dec x 2, dc 10, dec x 2. (14) Turn
Row 8: ch1, sc in the same, sc 1, ch1, skip 1, sc 3, ch1, skip 1, sc 2, dec, ch1, skip 1, sc 2. (buttonhole row) Fasten off.
Front crotch
With work upside down and front facing, skip 3 stitches from the right back crotch, join yarn and ch1.
Row 2: ch1, dec x 2, dc 18, dec x 2. (22) Turn
Row 3: ch1, cc x 11. (22) Turn
Row 4: ch1, dec x 2, hdc 14, dec x 2. (18) Turn
Row 5: ch1, cc x 9. (18) Turn
Row 6: ch1, dec x 2, dc 10, dec x 2. (14) continue to sc around leg opening, sc across back crotch, sc around leg opening, sc across front crotch, slst to first and fasten off.
Sew buttons on the front crotch to match the buttonholes. Shoulder to crotch should be 10.5”. Continue to the neck opening.
Neck opening
Join yarn at the bottom left of the back opening.
ch1, sc in the same, sc up to the top. Fasten off.
Join yarn at the top right of the neck opening.
ch1, sc in the same, skip 1, ch2, to make buttonhole, sc to the bottom. Fasten off.
Sew button at the top left.
