Frankenstein Kids Amigurumi

The Frankenstein kids, Frank and Frankie are crocheted all in one piece, the legs and arms are crocheted on then continue to the neck then head. The only pieces to sew on are the facial details. The ad free pattern can be purchased here

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc= single crochet (double crochet UK)

hdc= half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc= double crochet (treble crochet UK)

tc= treble crochet (double treble UK)

dec= invisible decrease (sc 2 stitches together using invisible decrease) (double crochet 2 stitches together UK)

inc= increase (2 sc in next stitch) (2 dc in next stitch UK)

Blo= back loops only

Flo= front loops only

mc= magic circle

bs= Bobble stitch- (yarn over pull up a loop yarn over pull through 2 stitches), five times, you should have 6 stitches on hook yarn over and pull through all 6.


Materials

Around 30g of skin colour dk yarn (I used pistachio green paintbox yarns)

50g of contrasting colours

2.5mm hook.

A 1.5mm hook and small amount of black, blue and white embroidery thread or 4ply yarn for the eyes or you can use 10mm safety eyes

Polyester toy filling

Needle


All parts are made going around in a spiral apart from feet.


Frank and Frankie will measure approx 12” tall, however size will depend on yarn and hook size used.

Arms 

Make two starting with green.

Stuff as you go.

Rnd 1: 5 sc in mc. (5)

Rnd 2: *inc* x 5. (10)

Rnd 3: *sc 1, inc* x 5. (15)

Rnds 4-6: sc all. (15)

Start stuffing and continue throughout.

Rnd 7: *sc 1, dec* x 5. (10)

Rnds 8-9: sc all. (10) 

Change to shirt or dress colour.

Rnds: 10-22: sc all. (10) 

Fasten off and stuff, weave in the end.


Neck support

Make with the shirt / dress colour.

Stuff as you go.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mc. (6)

Rnd 2: *inc* x 6. (12)

Rnd 3: *sc 1, inc* x 6. (18)

Rnds 4-16: sc all. (18)

Stuff firmly and fold the top in half and sc across 9 stitches, fasten off leaving a long end to sew inside the neck.

Eyes

Using 1.5 hook and embroidery thread or 4ply yarn

Starting with black

Round 1: 6 sc in a magic circle, slst to first. (6)

Round 2: ch1, 2 sc in the same, 2 sc in each of the next 2, join blue and 2 sc in each of the next 3, slst to first. (12)

Round 3: join white at the other side at the beginning of the blue, ch1, sc across the blue part and slst into the first black and fasten off. 

Legs 

Make two starting with black.

Rnd 1: ch8, 3 hdc in third chain from hook, 1 hdc in the next four, 6 hdc in last chain then working along other side, 1 hdc in each of the next four, 3 hdc in the last, slst to top of ch2. (21 including ch2)

Rnd 2: ch1, 1 hdc in the same stitch as ch1, 2 hdc in next two, 1 hdc in next five, 2 hdc in each of the next six, 1 hdc in next five, 2 hdc in each of the next two, slst to first. (31) 

Rnd 3: ch1, sc in same and next 30 all in back loop only, slst to first. (31) 

Rnd 4-6: ch1, sc in same and next 30, slst to first. (31) 

Rnd 7: ch1, sc in same and next 8, *dec* x 6, sc 10 slst to first. (25)

Change to green for Frankie

Rnd 8: ch1, sc in same and next 5, *dec* x 7, sc 5, slst to first. (18)

Change to grey for Frank

Start stuffing and continue throughout.

Rnd 9: *sc 3, dec* x 3, sc 3. (15) 

Now working in continuous rounds

Rnds 10-24: sc all. (15)

Sc 2 and fasten off the first leg. Sc to the back centre of the second leg to start the body.

Body

Rnd 1: sc 4, ch2, join to the next leg and by sc around 15 of the other leg, sc in both chains, sc 15 around the next leg and both chains. (34)

Rnd 2: *sc 4, inc* x 6, sc 4. (40)

Rnd 3: *sc 19, inc* x 2. (42)

Rnds 4-6: sc all. (42)

Change to dress colour for Frankie

Rnds 7-8: sc all. (42) Do rnd 8 in blo for Frankie only, the front loops will be used later to make a skirt.

Change to shirt colour for Frank

Rnd 9: *sc 5, dec* x 6. (36)

Start stuffing and continue throughout.

Rnds 10-12: sc all. (36)

Rnd 13: *sc 4, dec* x 6. (30)

Rnd 14-18: sc all. (30) 

Rnd 19: *sc 3, dec* x 6. (24)

Rnd 20: sc all. (24) Then sc to centre back ready for attaching arms.

Attaching arms

Fold arms in half

Rnd 21: sc 4, sc 5 through the arm and body, sc 6, sc 5 through the arm and body, sc 4. (24) 

Rnd 22: *sc 2, dec* x 6. (18)

Rnd 23: sc all. (18)

Change to body colour

Rnd 24: sc all. (18)

Keep stuffing as you go, continue with the head.

Head

Rnd 1: *inc* x 18. (36) 

Rnd 2: *sc 5, inc* x 6. (42)

Rnd 3: sc all. (42)

Rnd 4: *sc 6, inc* x 6. (48)

Rnds 5-16: sc all. (48) Place a marker for eyes between rnd 9 and 11.

Sew the eyes or fasten the safety eyes between rnds 9 and 11 with 5-6 stitches between the eyes. Sew eyelashes for Frankie. Sew a nose with the same colour yarn as face, 3 stitches wide with about 5 stitches, sew a mouth with black embroidery thread. Insert neck support half way down neck and sew in place around the inside of the neck, stuff and continue throughout.

Rnds 17-18: sc all. (48)

Rnd 19: *sc 6, dec* x 6. (42)  

Change to black

Rnd 20: sc all. (42)

Rnd 21: in blo *sc 5, dec* x 6. (36)  

Rnd 22: *sc 4, dec* x 6. (30)

Rnd 23: *sc 3, dec* x 6. (24)

Rnd 24: *sc 2, dec* x 6. (18)

Rnd 25: *sc 1, dec* x 6. (12)

Rnd 26: *dec* x 6. (6)

Fasten off leaving a long end for sewing and close up.

Ears  

Rnd 1: 8 hdc in mc. (8) 

Fasten off with a long end and pull tight. Sew in place level with the eyes around 6 stitches away. Sew some eyebrows with black embroidery thread.

Hair Frank

Join black yarn in front loops from rnd 21, *ch3, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next, slst 2* repeat around, slst to first and fasten off with a long end, sew the spikes of hair down all the way round.

Hair Frankie

Join black yarn in front loops from rnd 21, just before ear *ch26, sc in second chain from hook, sc 24, slst to next* repeat 20 more times so it's in the same place as first just after the ear.


Fringe 


*ch3, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next, slst 2* repeat around and slst to first, fasten off with a long end, sew the fringe down, sew the rest of hair down level with ears all the way round.

Skirt Frankie

Join dress colour yarn in front loops from rnd 8 of the body.

Rnd 1: ch3, dc in same, 2 dc in each loop. (84)

Rnds 2-3: ch3, dc in each stitch. (84)


Shoes Frankie 


Join yarn to the inside of the shoe, ch8, fasten off and sew to the other side. Sew a button on the outside.
