This granny square baby cardigan is made using a simple hdc stitch for the yoke and granny squares joined together for the body.

300 g Paintbox dk LoveCrafts Paperwhite and a small amount for the contrasting colours
4 mm hook I use this set from Amazon*
5 x 15mm buttons

Gauge Square
With 4mm hook
Row1 Ch10, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each chain across. (8) Turn
Row2-4 ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc 7. (8) Turn
Square should measure just over 4.5cm.
If you're out with a 4mm hook try 4.5mm hook.
If you have problems hitting the length but the width is ok, try dc instead of hdc.
Squares
Make 55 squares (5 strips of 11 squares
With 4mm hook and contrasting colour
Rnd1 Ch4, slst to first to form a ring, ch3, 2 dc, ch2 *3 dc, ch2* three times, slst to first.
Fasten off.
Rnd2 join white yarn into any corner, ch3, 2 dc, ch2, 3 dc, *3 dc, ch2, 3 dc* in each ch2 space, slst to first.
Rnd3 ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc 2, *2 sc, ch2, 2 sc* in corner, sc 6, *2 sc, ch2, 2 sc* in corner, sc 6, *2 sc, ch2, 2 sc* in corner, sc 6, *2 sc, ch2, 2 sc* in corner, sc 3, slst to first. Fasten off for first square only.
Each square should measure approximately 2.5 inches.
When you have the first square made fasten off. Then when the second one is made they can be joined by slip stitching using the back loops only.
Place the two squares you are joining then fold so the backs are on the outside.
Join yarn in the center of the corner and ch1, slst in the back loop of the bottom and back loop of the top stitch.
Slst loosely across to the center of the next corner, in the back loops only, not the whole stitch.
Continue with the squares until you have a strip of required amount, then make the next strip and slst the two strips together.

The next part will be attaching the granny squares to the yoke.
Slst across 10 stitches of each square to 10 stitches of yoke using the slst in the back loops method.
With the right side facing join yarn at the bottom right, ch1, sc in same and sc across to the other side, don't fasten off continue to button band at the end.

Row1 join yarn under arm, ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 36, slst to first at beginning of row. (37) Turn

Repeat Row 13 until the sleeve measures 15 inches from the shoulder.
Last row ch1, sc in base of ch1, sk1, *5 dc in next, sk1, sc in next, sk1, 5 dc in next* repeat to end and slst to first.
Fasten off and repeat for the other sleeve.
Button Band
With 4mm hook
Row1 Starting at the bottom with the right side facing, ch1, sc in the base of ch1, sc up to the top. Turn
Row2 ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc back down to the bottom. Turn
Row3 ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc back up to the top.
Fasten off.
Buttonhole Band
Row1 Starting at the top with the right side facing, ch1, sc in the base of ch1, sc down to the bottom. Turn
Mark out where you want buttonholes to be with stitch markers or scrap yarn.
Row2 ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc all, ch1 and skip where each buttonhole marker is. Turn
Row3 ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc all including ch1s.
Fasten off.
Bottom shell edging.
With right side facing join yarn to bottom right corner, ch1, sc in base of ch1, *sk1, 5 dc in next, sk1, sc in next* repeat to end.
Fasten off.
Sew the buttons to match up with the button holes.
