This little penguin applique measures 3” tall (including feet) and 3” wide (including wings)

Materials

Small amounts of dk weight 3 yarn in white, black and yellow or orange

3.5mm crochet hook

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

ch = chain

sc = single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hdc = half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

hdc2tog = half double crochet 2 stitches together

slst = slip stitch

* * = repeat between

ch = chain

Starting with white

ch9

Row 1: hdc in second chain from hook, hdc 6. (7) Turn

Row 2-6: ch1, hdc 7. (7) Turn

Change to black

Row 7: ch1, hdc2tog, hdc 3, hdc2tog. (5) Fasten off.

Join black at the bottom right (first row)

2 sc at the side of the next 3 rows, ch4, sc in second chain from hook, sc 2, 2 sc at the side of the next 4 rows, sc 5 across the top, 2 sc at the side of the next 4 rows, ch4, sc in the second chain from hook, sc 2, sc 2 at the side of the next 3 rows. Fasten off.

Feet

Join yellow / orange in the first white stitch at the bottom, *ch3, slst in second chain from hook, slst 1 of the chain, slst in the main stitch* x 2

Join yarn in the last white stitch and repeat to make the second foot.
