Isla Pinafore Dress
The Isla pinafore style dress is crochet from the waist down, then joining the yarn to create the bib and straps.

Written in US terms with abbreviations for UK terms
sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK terms)
dc=double crochet (treble crochet in UK terms)
blo=back loop only
ch=chain
inc=increase
dec=decrease
slst=slip stitch
ps= puff stitch (*yarn over, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop* repeat 4 more times, 11 loops on hook, pull yarn through all 11, ch1 to finish)
Materials
90g dk/light worsted/ 8ply yarn for sizes preemie / newborn
4mm hook
2 x 15mm buttons
Gauge Square
With 4mm hook
Row 1: Ch12, dc in 4th ch from hook and each chain across. (9) Turn
Row 2-4: ch1, dc in base of ch1, dc 8. (9) Turn
Square should measure 5 cm wide by 5 cm tall.
If you're out with a 4mm hook try a 4.5mm hook.
If you have problems hitting the length this is not too important, as measurement will be given to follow.
*Always ch 1 or 2 and sc / dc in same, to start the row, unless stated*

Length from shoulder approx 12 Inches
Starting with the skirt
Ch62, slst to first to form a circle. (62)
Round 1: ch2, dc all, slst to first (62) Turn
Round 2: ch2, dc in same, *dc 5, inc* x 10, dc 1, slst to first. (72) Turn
Round 3: ch2, dc in same, *dc 6, inc* x 10, dc 1, slst to first. (82) Turn
Round 4: ch2, dc in same, *dc 7, inc* x 10, dc 1, slst to first. (92) Turn
Round 5: ch2, dc in same, dc all, slst to first. (92) Turn
Repeat round 5 until the skirt measures 5.5 inches.
Edging
Round 1: ch1, *Ps, sk1* repeat to end slst to first.
Round 2-3: ch2, dc in same, dc all, slst to first. (92) Turn
Fasten off.
Back
With front facing
Join yarn 14 stitches to the right of center back
Row 1: ch1, dec, 1 dc in next 25, dec. (27) Turn (Leaving the rest unworked)
Row 2: ch1, dec, 1 dc in next 10, dec, 1 dc in next 10, dec. (24) Turn
Row 3-7: ch1, dc in same, dc 23. (24) Turn (don't fasten off, continue to straps)
Straps
Row 1-8: ch1, dc in same, dc in next 3. (4) Turn (leaving the rest unworked)
Fasten off.
Skip 16 stitches from the first strap, join yarn and repeat for the second strap.
Fasten off.
Top front
With back facing skip 4 stitches to the right of back and join yarn
Row 1: ch1, dec, 1 dc in next 21, dec. (23) Turn (Leaving the rest unworked)
Row 2: ch1, dec, 1 dc in next 19, dec. (21) Turn
Row 3-5: ch1, dc in same, dc 20. (21) Turn
Row 6: ch1, sc in same, ps, *sk1, ps* repeat to last stitch, sc in last.
Row 7: ch1, dc in same, dc 20. (21)
Fasten off.
The buttons are sewn onto the straps and are fastened through the top front row of the bib.
