Preemie Love My Granny Cardigan
This cardigan is worked from the top down in one piece, using the granny stitch. It’s quick and easy to work up and is great for using up scrap yarn.
The premium pattern with sizes 0-3 months to 10 years can be purchased here
Materials
dk / weight 3 yarn
3.5 and 4 mm crochet hooks
3 x 15mm buttons
Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK
sc = single crochet (double crochet UK)
dc = double crochet (treble crochet UK)
ch = chain
dec = decrease (crochet two stitches together)
slst = slip stitch
corner = (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc in the same) (2 treble crochet, ch2, 2 treble crochet UK)
cluster = 3 dc (double crochet) (3 treble crochet UK)
[ ] = in the same stitch stitch
* * = repeat between
Gauge Square
With a 4mm hook
9 dc and 4 rows = 2” x 2”
Pattern notes
The ch1 does not count as a stitch.
The ch3 counts as the first dc.
If you would like to decrease the sleeves, crochet two clusters together under the arm (where it's not noticeable), by dc in first cluster space, do part dc in first cluster and finish it in second cluster space (like dc two together), dc in second cluster space.
The ribbed bottom edging and cuffs measure approx 1”.
I have included a simple sc edging that will look lovely too.
The cardigan can also be made in the granny spike stitch, this will close the holes up that the granny stitch creates, see my youtube.
The cardigan will stop increasing at the sides once you see the ch3 in bold at the beginning of the row.
I have made a YouTube tutorial for size 0-3 months if you would like to have a watch.

Ribbed edging
Change to a 3.5mm hook
Row 1: ch6, sc in 2nd chain from the hook, sc in each chain back to the bottom of the cardigan, join to the next stitch of the bottom of the cardigan using a slst then work one more slst into the next stitch. (2 slsts in total for joining) (5) Turn

Repeat Rows 2-3 until you get to the other side of the cardigan and continue to the button band.
Button/Buttonhole Bands
If making buttonholes mark out where you want the button holes, where your markers are (I did my buttonholes on a row 3 (working back towards the cardigan) and did sc 2, ch2, skip 1 stitch, sc 2). Then on the next row sc 2, sc 1 in the ch2, sc 2.
Row 1: ch6, sc in 2nd chain from the hook, sc in each chain back to the edge of the cardigan, join to the next stitch of the edge of the cardigan using a slst then work one more slst into the next stitch. (2 slsts in total for joining) (5) Turn
Row 2: ch1, sc all in blo. (5) Turn
Row 3: (in blo) ch1, sc all back to the edge of the cardigan, join to the next stitch of the edge of the cardigan using a slst then work one more slst into the next stitch. (2 slsts in total for joining) (5) Turn
Repeat Rows 2-3 until you get to the other side of the cardigan.
Fasten off and sew your buttons on to match the button holes and weave in all ends.
SC Edging
If using this edging make 1” longer than the stated length as this edging will only measure 0.5”
Work 3 rows of sc along the bottom
Row 1: continuing from bottom, ch1, 1 sc in the same, work sc evenly up to the top, around the neck and down to the other side. Turn
Mark out where you want the button holes, on the next row ch1 and skip the one where the markers are.
Row 2: Buttonhole row, ch1, sc in the same, sc all but ch1 and skip where markers are to create button holes. Turn
Row 3: Ch1, sc in the same and sc in all including chains.
Fasten off and sew your buttons on to match the button holes and weave in all ends.
Sleeves
Join yarn at the ch2 space at the side of the arm using a 4mm hook
Row 1: ch3, 2 dc in the same, cluster between each cluster, slst to first. (10 clusters) (working the last cluster in the other ch2 space)
Repeat row 1 until the sleeve measures 6” from the shoulder.
Cuff
If you have decreased the sleeves already, make the next row of sc decreasing so you end with 20 sc.
Row 1: ch1, *sc 1, dec* x 10, slst to first. (20)
Change to a 3.5mm hook
Row 1: ch6, sc in 2nd chain from the hook, sc in each chain back to the edge of the cuff, join to the next stitch of the cuff using a slst then work one more slst into the next stitch. (2 slsts in total for joining) (5) Turn
