Preemie Milan Cardigan
This Cardigan is worked in one piece starting from the top and working down, then joining to make the sleeves and edging. It is made using the lemon peel stitch.

Materials
70g of dk / weight 3 yarn
3.5 and 4mm hook
5 x 15mm buttons
Gauge Square
With 4mm hook
Row 1: Ch12, dc in 4th ch from hook and each chain across. (9) Turn
Rows 2-4: ch1, dc in base of ch1, dc 8. (9) Turn
Square should measure 2 inches x 2 inches
If you're out with a 4mm hook try a 4.5mm hook.
* Working in the first stitch the ch1 does not count as a stitch so always, ch1 and sc in the first stitch*.
Stitch Pattern
This cardigan uses the lemon peel stitch and each row is worked as follows:
* ch1, sc in same, dc in the next, *sc, dc* repeat for the required stitches, doing the (dc, ch1, dc) increase in between.
* If you did a sc before the increase of (dc, ch1, dc) you would start the next lot of stitches with a dc.
* Every row will start with a sc and end with a dc.
Starting with the collar chain 46 with a 4mm hook
Row 1: hdc in the third chain from hook, hdc to end. (44)
Rows 2-3: ch1, fphdc in base of ch1, *bphdc, fphdc* repeat to end. (44)

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until sleeve measures 6 inches from shoulder
Cuffs
Using a 3mm hook
Row 1: Ch1, hdc in same, hdc to end, slst to first.(26)
Rows 2-3: ch1, fphdc in base of ch1, *bphdc, fphdc* repeat to end, slst to first. (26)
Fasten off and repeat for the other sleeve.
Button/Buttonhole Bands All sizes
Using 4mm hook
Buttonhole band
Mark out where you want the button holes with stitch markers or scrap yarn
Row 1: With WS facing, join yarn to the bottom of the right hand side of the front edge, ch1, hdc in the same, hdc evenly to the top, (where the markers are ch1, to make a buttonhole). Turn
Row 2: Ch1, *fphdc, bphdc* repeat to end, including the ch1 as a stitch.
Button band
Row 1: With WS facing, join yarn to top of left hand side, ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc evenly down to the bottom. Turn
Row 2: Ch1, *fphdc, bphdc* repeat to end.
Fasten off and sew your buttons on to match the button holes and weave in all ends.
