Preemie Milan Romper

This cute little romper is made using hdc yoke then sc and dc stitches for the body and back to hdc for the crotch. There will be one button at the back of the neck to fasten and three buttons for the crotch.

This pattern will be perfect to make for charities or dolls. The pattern comes in sizes:

1-4 lb chest 9”, shoulder to crotch 7.5”

3-4 lb chest 11.5”, shoulder to crotch 9”

5-6 lb chest 13”, shoulder to crotch 10.5”

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc = single crochet (double crochet UK)

hdc = half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc = double crochet (treble crochet UK)

ch = chain

hdc2tog = half double crochet 2 stitches together (half treble 2 together UK)

slst = slip stitch

[ ] = in the same stitch

* * = repeat between

Materials

60g dk weight 3 yarn (based on 276 meters per 100g ball)

4mm hook

4 x 10mm buttons

Gauge

With 4mm hook

9 hdc x 5 rows = 2” x 2”#

Pattern notes:

The ch1 does not count as a stitch.

When working in joined rounds, ch1 and first sc in the stitch to the left of ch1, this gives a better seam.

Preemie 1-2 lb

Ch38 with 4mm hook

Row 1: 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc 4, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 6, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 10, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 6, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 5. (44) Turn

Row 2: ch1, hdc 6, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 8, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 12, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 8, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 6. (52) Turn

Row 3: ch1, hdc 7, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 10, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 14, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 10, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 7. (60) Turn

Row 5: (Divide for arm holes) ch1, hdc 9, [3 hdc] in the next, skip 14, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 18, [3 hdc] in the next, skip 14, [3 hdc] in the next, hdc 9, slst to first. (48) Turn

Row 6: ch1, *sc, dc* repeat to end, slst to the first. (48) Turn

Repeat Row 6 until work measures approximately 6” from the shoulder. Fasten off.

Back Crotch

With work upside down and back facing, count 11 stitches to the right of where fastened off, join yarn and ch1.

Row 1: ch1, hdc 22. (22) Turn

Row 2: ch1, hdc2tog, hdc 18, hdc2tog. (20) Turn

Row 3: ch1, hdc2tog, hdc 16, hdc2tog. (18) Turn

Fasten off

Front crotch

With work upside down and front facing, skip 4 stitches from the back crotch, join yarn and ch1

Row 1: ch1, hdc 18. (18) Turn

Row 2: ch1, hdc2tog, hdc 14, hdc2tog. (16) Turn

Row 3: ch1, hdc2tog, hdc 12, hdc2tog. (14) Turn

Row 4: ch1, hdc2tog, hdc 10, hdc2tog. (12) Turn

Row 5: ch1, hdc2tog, hdc 8, hdc2tog. (10) Turn

To finish off ch1, sc all around leg openings and crotch, slst to first.

Sew three buttons at the bottom of the front crotch, the buttons should fit through the row of hdc on the back crotch.

Shoulder to crotch should be 8”.
