This lovely matching baby set is simple and works up quickly.

Hat to fit 11-12” diameter head and should measure between 10-11” and 4.5”tall when finished

Booties should have 7cm sole

Mittens should be 5cm wide x 7cm long

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

hdc=half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

sc=single crochet (double crochet UK)

dc=double crochet (treble crochet UK)

slst=slip stitch

bphdc=back post half double crochet (back post half treble UK)

fphdc=front post half double crochet (front post half treble UK)

dec=hdc invisible decrease (half treble invisible decrease) (see below)

ch=chain

bs= Bobble Stitch: Yarn over, insert hook into indicated stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, (yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop) x 3, yarn over, pull through all 9 loops on hook.

Gauge square

Using a 4mm hook

Row 1: Ch11, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc next 8. (9)

Row 2-5: ch1 hdc in base of ch1, hdc all. (9)

The square should measure 5cm x 5cm.

Materials 

4mm hook

100g Dk / weight 3 yarn 

Darning needle

*At the start of every round always ch1 and hdc or sc  in same space*

My example below for the photos are all in size newborn.

Hat 

Round 1: ch4, slst to first to form a ring, ch2 and 11 hdc into ring, slst to top of ch2. (12)

Round 2: ch2, hdc in same as ch2, 2 hdc in all, slst to top of ch2. (24) Turn

Round 3: ch1, sc in the same, bs, *sc, bs* repeat to end, slst to first. (24)Turn

Round 4: ch2, hdc in same, 2 hdc in each stitch, slst to top of ch2. (48) Turn

Round 5: ch1, sc in the same, bs, *sc, bs* repeat to end, slst to first. (48) Turn

Round 6: ch2, hdc all, slst to ch2. (48) Turn

Repeat round 5 and 6 until the hat measures 4.5 inches tall.

Fasten off and sew in the ends and make a pompom if you want to add one.

Booties

Sole 

Round 1: ch11, 2 hdc in third chain from hook, 1 hdc in next seven, 6 hdc in last chain then working along other side, 1 hdc in each of the next seven, 3 hdc in the last, slst to first. (26)

Round 2: ch2, 1 hdc in the same stitch as ch2, 2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of the next eight, 2 hdc in next each of the next six, 1 hdc in each of the next nine, 2 hdc in each of the next two, slst to first. (36) 

Sole should measure 7cm long.

Instep

Round 3: ch1, bphdc in base of ch1, bphdc to end, slst to first. (36) 

Round 4:  ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc to end, slst to first. (36) 

Round 5: ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc 9, *hdc dec* x 8, hdc 10, slst to first. (28) 

Round 6: ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc 5, *hdc dec* x 8, hdc 6, slst to first. (20) Turn

Ankle

Round 7: ch1, sc in the same, bs, *sc, bs* repeat to end slst to first. (20) Turn

Round 8: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc to end slst to first. (20) Turn

Round 9: ch1, sc in the same, bs, *sc, bs* repeat to end slst to first. (20) Turn

Round 10: ch1, sc in the same, sc to end slst to first. (20) 

Fasten off.

Mittens

Round 1: ch3, hdc 7 in the last chain from hook, slst to first. (8)

Round 2: ch1, 2 hdc in all, slst to first. (16) Turn

Round 3: ch1, sc in the same, bs, *sc, bs* repeat to end, slst to first. (16) Turn

Round 4: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc to end, slst to first. (16) Turn

Round 5: ch1, sc in the same, bs, *sc, bs* repeat to end, slst to first. (16) Turn

Round 6: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc to end, slst to first. (16) Turn

Round 7: ch1, sc in the same, bs, *sc, bs* repeat to end, slst to first. (16) Turn

Round 8: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc to end, slst to first. (16) 

Round 9: ch1, fphdc in each stitch to end, slst to first. (16)

Fasten off.

Ties

Ch82, fasten off and thread through the hdc on round 8, tie the end strings and snip off.
