Rainbow Bunny

This bunny is crochet in one piece and the only sewing needed is the ears, cheeks, nose and rainbow tummy.

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc = single crochet (double crochet in UK)

ch = chain

mc = magic circle

dec = decrease sc (sc 2 stitches together) (double crochet 2 stitches together UK)

inc = increase (2 sc in next stitch) (2 dc in next stitch UK)

Materials

Weight 5 chunky chenille yarn (85 meters) (I used Aldi baby yarn) and 5mm hook

For the rainbow and cheeks, small amounts of weight 3 yarn in rainbow colours and a 2.5mm hook I use this set from Amazon*

20mm safety eyes (I bought from Cello express on ebay)

Needle

All parts are made going around in a spiral apart from the rainbow.

The bunny will measure 13 inches including ears. However the size will depend on yarn and hook size used.

Arms

Make two

Leave unstuffed.

Round  1: 6 sc in mc. (6)

Round 2-8: sc all. (6)

Fasten off.

Legs 

Make two

Round 1: 8 sc in mc. (8)

Round 2: (inc) x 7, sc 1. (15)

Round 3: sc all. (15)

Round 4: sc 2, (dec) x 5, sc 3. (10)

Round 5-7: sc all. (10)

Round 8: sc 8 for first leg / sc 10 for second leg (this is for lining up the legs). (10)

Fasten off the first.

Then after the second leg is made we will join together to start the body.

Body

Round 1: Continuing from second leg, sc 2, ch2, sc 10 around the first leg, 1 sc in each chain, 10 sc around second leg and 1 sc in each chain. (24)

Round 2: (sc 3, inc) x 6. (30)

Round 3: (sc 4, inc) x 6. (36)

Round 4: sc all. (36)

Round 5: (sc 4, dec) x 6. (30)

Round 6: sc all. (30)

Round 7: (sc 3, dec) x 6. (24)

Round 8: sc all. (24)

Round 9: (sc 2, dec) x 6. (18)

Attaching arms

Fold the arms in half

Round 10: sc 4, sc 3 through arm and body, sc 4, sc 3 through arm and body, sc 4. (18)

Keep stuffing as you go and continue with head.

Head

Round 1: (sc 2, inc) x 6. (24) 

Round 2:  (sc 3, inc) x 6. (30)

Round 3:  (sc 4, inc) x 6. (36)

Round 4-9: sc all. (36) 

Round 10: (sc 4, dec) x 6. (30) (insert safety eyes between rounds 7 and 8 with 6 visible stitches between) (Make a stitch where you will place each eye and pull tight to make an indentation if you want)

Round 11: sc all. (30)

Round 12: (sc 3, dec) x 6. (24)

Round 13: (sc 2, dec) x 6. (18)

Round 14: (sc 1, dec) x 6. (12)

Round 15: (dec) x 6. (6)

Fasten off leaving a long, weave yarn round remaining stitches and pull tight to close up.

Ears

Make two

Round 1: 6 sc in mc. (6)

Round 2: sc all. (6)

Round 3: (inc) x 6. (12)

Round 4-10: sc all. (12)

Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Cheeks

Make two with weight 3 yarn and 2.5mm hook

Round 1: 6 sc in mc. (6)

Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Rainbow

Using weight 3 yarn and 2.5mm hook

Ch6

Row 1: Purple sc in second ch from hook, sc 3, 4 sc in the last, continue to work along the other side, sc 4. (12)

Change colour after each row and join new yarn at the same side each time

Row 2: Blue Ch1, sc in the same, sc 3, 2 sc in the next 4, sc 4. (16)

Row 3: Green Ch1, sc in the same, sc 3, (sc 1, 2 sc in the next) x 4, sc 4. (20)

Row 4: Yellow Ch1, sc in the same, sc 3, (sc 2, 2 sc in the next) x 4, sc 4. (24)

Row 5: Peach Ch1, sc in the same, sc 3, (sc 3, 2 sc in the next) x 4, sc 4. (28)

Row 6: Pink Ch1, sc in the same, sc 3, (sc 4, 2 sc in the next) x 4, sc 4. (32)

Fasten off.
