Simple Phone Bag Crochet Pattern

These little children’s bags are made using a wider chain to start with. I added some appliques to decorate mine, you can find them here. I made the strap shorter than the phone bag.

This phone bag is super simple and quick to make. It works in the round so there is no sewing or seams.

If you want to make this pattern to a different size for an IPad or other device / phone or even a childs bag. Make the starting chain approx 2 chains wider than the object.

It can be made as a quick last minute gift, or make a few for markets!

SKILL LEVEL

Beginner

MATERIALS

Approx 50 meters each of two balls (more if making a bigger bag) dk / weight 3 yarn

5.5mm crochet hook

WRITTEN IN ENGLISH US TERMS WITH ABBREVIATIONS FOR UK

sc = single crochet (double crochet UK)

hsc = herringbone single crochet (herringbone double crochet UK) Video

ch = chain

slst = slip stitch

PATTERN NOTES

  • I used 2 strands of dk / weight 3 yarn held together. But any weight yarn will work for this project, as you can chain to the required width you want. So it's perfect for using up your scraps!

  • There is a YouTube video here

  • Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of round 2, so you know which side to end.

Finished measurements

This pattern is designed so that you can make to your own measurements.

The one I made to fit my phone measures as below.

10cm / 4” wide x 17cm / 6.75” tall.

PATTERN

ch13 (or how many stitches you need for the size you want to make)

Round 1: sc in the second chain from the hook, sc 11, turn to work along the other side, sc 12, sc one more in the last. (25)

Round 2: sc all. (25)

Repeat round 2 until your work measures the size you want, or use my above measurements.

When you reach the required size, end at the side with the stitch marker, slst to the next stitch, then continue to chain for the strap.

STRAP

ch120 (or how long you want the strap, slst 2 stitches from the other side of the bag (check that its central)

sc in the second chain from hook, hsc all, slst to the next stitch at the top edge of the bag.

Fasten off and sew in the ends.
