Snuggles Baby Blanket
This blanket is made using the grit stitch, which is a really simple repeat stitch full of texture!
It maybe my new favourite stitch, so watch out for some more patterns coming soon using this stitch!
Materials
Approx 550 metres chunky weight 5 yarn (I used Aldi baby yarn 95 metres per 100g) (90 meters was used for the border)
7.5mm crochet hook I use this set from Amazon*
Yarn Substitutions
King Cole Yummy Yarn 100g (120 metres)
Himalaya Dolphin Baby yarn 100g (120 metres)
Bernat Velvet Yarn 300g (288 metres)
Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK
sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)
hdc=half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)
dc= double crochet (treble crochet UK)
ch=chain
slst=slip stitch
* *=repeat to end
[ ]=in the same stitch
My blanket measured 26“ wide x 28“ long without the border and 29“ wide x 31“ long with the border.
I did 6 rows of each colour x 8 (each stripe of colour measured 3.5”)
I then used cream for the border.
Pattern tips
Working in the first stitch the ch1 does not count as a stitch so always, ch1 and sc in the first stitch.
To make the blanket wider chain in multiples of two
Pattern
Row 1: Chain 70, sc in the second chain from the hook and each stitch across. Turn (69)
Row 2: ch1, sc in base of ch1, skip 1 * [sc, dc in next], skip 1] * repeat until the last two stitches, skip 1, sc in the last. Turn
Repeat row 2 until work measures the length you want mine was 28“
Border
Join border colour in any corner
Round 1: ch1, [sc in the same, ch1, sc], sc to the next corner * [sc, ch1, sc] sc to next corner * repeat to the end, slst to first, slst to the corner.
Round 2: ch1, * [2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc] in the corner space, hdc to the next corner space * repeat to end, slst to first, slst to corner.
Round 3: ch1, [sc, ch2, sc] in the corner, skip 2, * [sc, ch2, sc] skip 2 * repeat all the way around, slst to first.
Fasten off and sew in the ends.
