This waffle style pixie bonnet is very simple to make, it is crochet in a rectangle then folded in half and sewn from the inside, then crochet around the bottom and make the ties.

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK
sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)
dc=double crochet (treble crochet UK)
fpdc=front post double crochet (front post treble UK)
ch=chain
slst=slip stitch
blo=back loops only
flo=front loops only
Crab stitch (reverse sc) sc in the opposite direction= (double crochet in opposite direction UK)
Materials
100g dk / 8ply / light worsted acrylic yarn
4 mm hook
Needle
Scissors
Pom pom maker
Gauge Square
With 4 mm hook
Row1 Ch12, dc in 4th ch from hook and each chain across. (9) Turn
Row2-4 ch1, dc in base of ch1, dc 8. (9) Turn
Square should measure 5 x 5 cm.
If you're out with a 4 mm hook try a larger hook.
Bonnet
Row1 Chain 51, dc in the forth chain from the hook and each stitch across. (48) Turn
Row2 ch1, dc in base of ch1, *fpdc in next, dc in next 2* repeat until the last two stitches, fpdc, dc in last. (48) Turn
Row3 ch1, dc in base of ch1, *dc in next, fpdc in next 2* repeat until the last two stitches, dc in next 2. (48) Turn
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until work measures 5 inches.
Do the last round in reverse sc (crab stitch) to the other side.
Alternatively do a row of hdc, then a row of *fphdc, bphdc*
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Fold the rectangle in half and sew down the side opposite the crab stitch.
Making ties
With the back of the bonnet facing, join yarn to the right side at the end of the crab stitch, ch 46, sc in second chain from hook and each chain back up to bonnet.
Sc across the back of the bonnet to the other side (decreasing a few along the way to taper the bonnet in at the back) when you reach the other side, repeat the same chains, sc in second chain from hook and each chain back up to the bonnet and slst to the first.
Fasten off and sew in all the ends.
Add a pom pom to the top point if you want.
Finished bonnet should measure 5 x 5 inches
